The Beach of Dreams Silks
500 silk pennants created with communities across the UK.
The Beach of Dreams Silks is a nationally recognised commission by Kinetika, and the centrepiece of Kinetika’s Beach of Dreams creative programme. Much more than an installation, it is a moving celebration of our coastlines and the stories they carry.
Hundreds of hand-painted and naturally-dyed silk pennants – each one created as a personal response to the coast – come together to form a striking, evolving tapestry. Wherever it is installed, the work transforms familiar landscapes into sites of reflection, connection, and shared celebration.
Our team will design a bespoke layout for your site – resulting in an intervention that is both sensitive and spectacular.

The Carnival Queen & Mobile Boats
Two striking sampan-inspired mobile boat structures and a vibrant carnival queen, originally created for the Thames Estuary Beach of Dreams 2025 commission Threads for Tomorrow. Designed in collaboration with local communities, they carry deep symbolism of resilience, renewal, and our relationship with the environment. With options for sound and light, they bring both visual spectacle and layered meaning to processions and performances.
Choreography with Charlene Low
Participatory workshops that animate the Silks with choreographed movement or community-led performance.
Music & Energy
From Kinetika Bloco’s 30-piece carnival band to mobile sound systems and boom bikes, add live or recorded accompaniment for walks, parades, or celebrations.
Silk River Collection
20 silks created with communities along the Thames Estuary, London & Hooghly River, India.
Silk River, a British Council UK/India Year of Culture commission, bridged the Thames Estuary and the Hooghly River through a year-long creative exchange. These silks celebrated the cultural ties between the UK and India, bringing their histories to life through collaborative workshops and the creation of hand-painted scrolls.
The Silk River Collection showcases the rich artistry and heritage of Murshidabad silk, adding a distinctive touch of elegance to any event or space. Each intricately hand-painted silk scroll is both versatile and visually striking – perfect for outdoor installations, site decorations, and parades. They can also be weighted and displayed indoors, where they serve as graceful and sophisticated banners.
