Grays to Tilbury Fort

Walk 35: Sun 1st August 2021

Walk

Distance: 4.8 miles

On the final day we set out from Grays and head to Tilbury, where this walk joins the final walk of the T100 walking festival. At the edge of Tilbury Town we all make our way to Tilbury Fort along the new Fort Road with views of the Thames and local farmland. At Tilbury Fort we are looking forwards to a big finale celebration to which everyone on this walk is invited!

If this walk is fully booked, you can book on the T100 walk from Tilbury station instead.

Read more about the finale at the Fort here.

To all Walkers

The route for this walk has changed significantly due to key paths being closed and to avoid a dangerous road. This means that mile markers 493 to 500 will move on the day of the walk. Their positions on the Storymap will remain the same.

There are two official meeting locations per day; at the start and near the mid-point. If you only wish to walk your one-mile stretch and join the walking party as it comes through your section, you can specify to meet ‘at my mile’ on the booking form. If you are meeting ‘at my mile’, please understand it is difficult for us to specify the exact time the main walking party will arrive. To help you estimate this, use the scheduled times below and add 30 mins per mile to get to your mile. We are using a walking speed of 2 miles an hour as a guide.

Please email info@beachofdreams.co.uk with any queries.

Route: Walk 35

Please note that mile markers 493 to 500 have been relocated on the day of the walk but their positions on the Storymap will remain the same.

The pink route line is the T100 festival walk

Please note: The routes and mile markers were mapped in February. It is possible that some changes will be needed before the walk itself takes place, for example because of temporary path closures, weather events, and tidal conditions. If there are changes, we will walk an alternative route that is as close as possible to the planned route, and keep the mile markers as close to the originals too. If route lines appear to stray off public rights of way, this will not happen in reality and route lines will be adjusted as more accurate information from walk leaders is available. ‘Miles’ at the start and end of days may be slightly more or less than one mile.
