Steve Hasson: Volunteer, Milton Keynes
Hi, I’m Steve
I have a lifelong passion for music rooted in the English folk tradition. The opportunity to let creative arts flourish is what really inspired me to become a volunteer. I volunteer because sharing my professional expertise and financial good fortune sits at the heart of what defines me as a person. Many years ago, I was given the opportunity to volunteer as a trustee where I share free financial advice with arts organisations that might not be able to otherwise afford it, and I also provide financial support to a range of artists – some with creative work and sometimes just to help someone with unexpected living costs.
Being a volunteer trustee allows me to work with some other fantastic trustees from a variety of backgrounds at The Stables where we are all committed to supporting the executive team. Working here generates many memorable moments, but most recently those that stand out are when we contributed funds for new equipment for a street artist who had lost hers and covering a vet bill for a musician whose income had disappeared. In many cases, the artists that we help don’t qualify for help from government schemes.
What keeps me inspired is when artists see how much they are cherished by others. At the right time, on the right night, there is shared magic in music gigs – that feeling is unique and just the memory of that is enough to keep me going.
