Carnival / Community Flags / Place Making“It’s been an absolutely fantastic project to be involved with, from start to finish … The flags are a great testament to the relationship Kinetika and LE have established and I hope this can continue in the future.” Link Ethiopia
To mark the occasion of their 20-year anniversary, Link Ethiopia invited Kinetika to create ten spectacular flags with school pupils in Ethiopia and another ten in the UK.
This project examined ideas of local identity and pride of place as well as teaching design and making.
Drawing workshops were delivered on location in Gondar schools by a team of eight artists who worked with 600 pupils from 10 schools. To apply the dye, all the silk was taken to one location to ensure consistency of colour across the designs.
Once complete, the project culminated in a colourful procession with hundreds of school children taking part, all starting in their own neighbourhoods and converging on the centre together.
